Repair Procedures
Provincial occupational health and safety regulations require that all repairs to lifting devices be both performed under the supervision of a professional engineer and re-tested and certified by a professional engineer (Alberta Occupational Health and Safety 122(1)).  The Zeus Engineering Ltd. engineers have years of experience in the structural/weld repair of cranes and other equipment.  Our in-house metallographic facility allows rapid determination of material types for both replacement materials and welding procedure specification.
Cold weather combined with poor fracture toughness resulted in the catastrophic failure of a gallows component from a large container handler.  Under the supervision of Zeus Engineering Ltd. the critical portions were rebuilt utilizing low temperature plate and improved welding procedures.

The failure of this forklift mast resulted in critical downtime for the client and immediate replacement of the mast was not possible.  The subsequent weld procedures and plate reinforcement designed by Zeus Engineering Ltd. allowed the repair and redeployment of this forklift with minimum time delay, reducing the impact of the incident to the client.

The weld repair of nested boom sections presents a unique problem.  Since boom sections are normally of relatively small size, back-welding of repairs is not feasible.  Welding only from a single side, however, can result in excess weld metal that can interfere with the inner boom travel.  Zeus Engineering Ltd. has considerable experience related to welding and difficult repairs.  Innovations that include ceramic backup and uniquely designed rootpasses have been employed to produce sound boom repairs.
